Day 1

Arrival

Transfer to our hotel in La Condesa, the happening neighborhood built in the art-deco era, with its tree-lined avenues now full of cafés, galleries, and many of the city’s best restaurants.

Day 2

City Tour

Walk through the center of Mexico City tracing culture from the Atzecs up to modern times as we spend the day in the Centro Historico enjoying art, architecture, and traditional foods. We’ll stop to enjoy the Oroszco and Diego Rivera murals in the Zocalo, walk down the Alameda, and wander through the halls of the world renowned Palacio de Bellas Artes.

Day 3

Museo de Antropologia 

Delve into the incredible art, jewelry, and textiles from ancient times!  We will spend the morning at the enormous Anthropology museum for a peek into Mexico’s spectacularly diverse indigenous cultures. The museum is situated in Chapultepec, Mexico City’s version of Central Park, with a castle and dozens of other museums.  Spend the afternoon on your own exploring and enjoying!

Day 4

Markets and  Art Museums

We begin the day with a trip to a local neighborhood market highlighting the incredible culinary diversity of Mexico. We visit two amazing and very different museums, recently built right next to each other. Museo Jumex houses the largest collection in the world of contemporary Latin American work and some of the city’s most innovative exhibitions. Museo Soumaya is either an architectural wonder or a garish abomination, depending on who you ask, and is home to the collection of Carlos Slim.

Day 5

Frida Kahlo’s house and Coyoacan

We’ll spend the day in the bohemian neighborhood Coyoacan, meandering down cobblestone streets, enjoying traditional food, drinking coffees with poets, diplomats, and abuelas. Coyoacan is home to Frida Kahlo’s house, beautiful traditional churches, and the Museo de Arte Popular.

Day 6

Fly to Oaxaca, Ethnobotanical garden tour

A short flight takes us over the Mexican highlands into the valley of Oaxaca with its stunning beauty. Late in the afternoon we tour the exquisitely designed Ethnobotanical Garden of Oaxaca made by artist Francisco Toledo.

Day  7

Artisan villages, Mezcal tastings

Stretching our legs out of town, we’ll spend the day visiting workshops of working artisans in the breathtaking Oaxaca Valley, coming back at night to sip fiery glasses of Mezcal made in small batches.

Market Tour, Explore Oaxaca

We’ll spend the day meandering our way through the bustling markets of Oaxaca stopping for hot chocolate and snacks at the delicious stalls of food vendors and exploring the rich selection of artisan crafts. Farewell Dinner
